Life at Breakers West
A renovated Rees Jones course, lighted clay tennis courts, a Sport & Activity Complex and a connection to The Breakers Palm Beach shape daily life at Breakers West.
I would introduce Breakers West in West Palm Beach through the rhythm of a typical week: a round on the Rees Jones Course, a lesson or clinic, time at the pool or fitness center and a casual lunch in the Grille Room. The club’s ties to The Breakers Palm Beach add another layer for some members. The home search starts by understanding how membership would work with each property you consider.

Golf & practice
How would golf and practice fit into your week?
The 18-hole Breakers Rees Jones Course opened in 1968 and has been reworked by Rees Jones twice, most recently in a renovation that reopened the course in December 2022. That work brought new grasses, reshaped bunkers, rebuilt holes and a set of shorter green tees, so the course now plays from about 3,900 to about 7,100 yards across six tee sets at par 72. The John Webster Golf Academy offers lessons with swing analysis, club fitting and a junior program for continuing instruction.

Tennis & pickleball
Where would you play racquet sports?
The club lists seven lighted Har-Tru tennis courts, which allows play into the evening, along with two newer pickleball courts. Certified professionals lead lessons and clinics, and the staff helps match players for games. Junior tennis runs after school, in summer and during school holidays.

Fitness & pool
Where would you train and unwind?
The Sport & Activity Complex brings the members’ fitness center, group classes, personal training and a basketball court together in one place. The club describes the fitness center as recently expanded and the resort-style pool as recently renovated, with a whirlpool spa nearby. Having these spaces side by side makes it easy for different household members to choose their own pace.

Dining & social life
Where would you dine and spend time with friends?
The Grille Room serves casual lunches and hosts a Friday evening bistro night, while the renovated Royal Palm Ballroom is used for themed dinners and holiday events. The club also holds members-only social gatherings through the year. The dining page notes member savings at restaurants at The Breakers Palm Beach, which some members may use for evenings out.

Children & visiting family
What would you explore for children and visiting family?
The Kids’ Club serves ages 4 to 14 with a game room, arts and crafts room, playroom, movie room and outdoor playground, and certified counselors can supervise while parents golf, play tennis or work out. Seasonal camps are offered around Thanksgiving, winter break and school days off. Junior golf and tennis programs give children and grandchildren other ways to enjoy the club.

Home & membership
What membership and home details should you verify?
The club describes itself as non-equity and lists annual Rees Jones and Sport & Social categories, a seasonal summer option and membership at The Breakers Ocean Club. The annual categories include summer access to The Breakers Beach Club and the Ocean Course, plus discounts at The Breakers Palm Beach. The membership page does not explain how membership relates to homes in the community’s neighborhoods, so terms can differ by property and are worth confirming with the club before you compare homes.

Would Breakers West fit the way you want to live?
Breakers West is worth a close look when you want a single, recently renovated golf course, clay-court tennis and a family-friendly activity complex, with a connection to The Breakers Palm Beach as an added benefit. I would build a sample week around how you actually spend your time, then confirm which membership category fits and how it would work with each home you consider.
- How would club membership work with this particular home, and which category fits our golf, tennis and social plans?
- Which Breakers Palm Beach privileges come with the category we are considering, and in which months?
- What Kids’ Club, camp and junior programs fit the ages and visits of our children or grandchildren?
